About the event
Casa Mexico and Riseup Weekends are very proud in presenting this unique musical concert with the participation of two phenomenal groups: Notas de 4 and The Calgary Latin Orchestra, who will be taking us into a musical journey from Spain to Mexico and Latin America.
The concert will take place on December 4 at 7pm at the National Music Centre.
About Notas de 4
Notas de 4 is SILVIA TEMIS (front woman, vocals, jaleos*, percussion, dance), JORGE VILLENA (guitar, vocals), ALEKSANDRA DANICIC (violin, mandolin, accordion, chorus) MARIA REGNIER (flamenco dance, percussions, jaleos) and LUIS TOVAR "EL PANA" (percussion, vocals) and FRANK AULAR (electric bass).Notas de 4 is Calgary’s original Latin Jazz ensemble, currently was nominated for Global Artist of the Year 2021 by Western Canadian Music Awards and also is YYC Award Winning band for World/Cultural music of 2020. The ensemble’s original compositions are inspired from Flamenco, Latin Jazz and traditional music from Cuba and Mexico.Their performance has been described as Intense, edgy and dreamy; a reimagination of Latin music composed in a uniquely Canadian landscape. The group consisting of the city's top world musicians deliver very personal and powerful performances fueled by traditional pieces from across Latin America. Drawing inspiration from bands like Pink Martini, Natalia Lafourcade, Lhasa de Sela, Los Panchos,The band will be releasing their first full-length album “Rosas y Lirios” (Roses & Lilies) this September 2019, which includes a special guest appearance from renowned percussionist Rosendo “Chendy” Leon, originally from Cuba, and Toronto based. The recording project was possible thanks to the help of Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFFA) and FACTOR Canada.The group has performed in notable sold-out stages including TEDxCalgary Talk Music, Lolita’s Lounge, Pro-Arts Noon Series, The Junction and Expo Latino. The CD release party is at Arts Common’s amazing acoustic venue “Big Secret Theatre” on October the 19th in downtown Calgary.*jaleos (words of encouragement, traditional to Andalusia)
About the Calgary Latin Orchestra
A Latin show never seen before in the city performed by the Calgary Latin Orchestra. 11 great musicians will put together a delightful and amazingly arranged Latin music repertoire, from the boleros to the salsa, passing through a vibrant spectrum of rhythms. With Gisela Romero, Jorge Chaviano and Andres Gonzalez on vocals, Esteban Herrera on direction and piano, Jeremy Coates on bass, Luis Tovar and Raul Tabera on percussion, Andre Wickenheiser and Johnny Summers on trumpet, Shane Statz on sax and Carsten Rubeling on trombone, the Calgary Latin Orchestra is proud to present “A musical journey from Spain to Latin-America”.

Casa Mexico is implementing the Restrictions Exemption Program of the Government of Alberta. This is the way we try to contribute for a better future for all.
We require that all our visitors, artists, volunteers, vendors, and all people attending our events or programs is vaccinated.Guidelines from Gov of Alberta. Proof of vaccination. Your proof of vaccination must display the name, type of vaccine and the date it was received. This can be a paper COVID-19 vaccination record or shown on an electronic device from:
- Alberta Health Services
- A First Nation
- Your pharmacy
- Your physician
- Another province or territory
- Canadian armed forces
Proof of negative test result. You can show a COVID-19 negative test result. Tests must be:
- Provided as an original or printed copy (photos are not sufficient)
- Privately-paid
- A Health Canada approved rapid antigen, rapid PCR or lab-based PCR test
- Completed within the past 72 hours
Test results must show the type of test, time of sample collection, clear indication of a negative result, and laboratory that completed the test.Tests must not be from Alberta Health Services or Alberta Precision Laboratories.Medical Exemption from vaccine letter. You must show an original signed letter from a physician or nurse practitioner that includes:
- Your name that matches your identification (only required for adults 18 and over)
- Physician’s or nurse practitioner’s complete information, including their name, phone number, contact information, professional registration number and signature
- A statement that there is a medical reason for not being fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- The duration that the exemption is valid
Vaccine Dosage Requirements.Between Sept. 20 to Oct. 25, proof of a single dose is accepted if you received the dose more than two weeks when attending events at the Centre.After October 25, proof of double vaccination (or single Janssen dose) with the final dose administered at least 14 days prior to entry is required for all customers 12 years and older to access all events at the Centre.Accepted forms of personal identification
- Birth certificate issued by a government of a province of Canada
- Citizenship card
- Driver’s license issued by a government of a province of Canada
- Government (Alberta or other) issued identification card, including health card
- Certificate of Indian status
- Métis Nation of Alberta Association citizenship and identification card
- Inuit Status card
- Passport attesting to citizenship or other national status, issued by a government of any jurisdiction
- Permanent Resident Card
- Any other form of identification recognized by the Chief Medical Officer of Health
